What do we do?

• We listen to what young people have to say and support young people to get things changed in their local areas.

• We are a group of youth workers who are known as “Detached Workers”

• We work with young people mainly in the streets, shopping centres and parks of Havering.

• We work with young people to plan activities and projects around their interests and needs?

• We provide young people with information, advice and support on things that concern them.

Which young people do we work with?

• We only work with young people who want to work with us.

• We mainly work with groups of friends.

• Most of the time, we work with young people who choose not to use local buildings such as youth clubs and sports centres.

• We also work with young people who have no other types of youth work available to them in their area.

• We often work with young people who gather in groups in places where anti social behaviour is a problem.

What sort of projects and activities have young people done?

• Weekends away
• Football projects
• Skate Park projects
• Urban Art
• Music Workshops
• Working with computers
• Video work
• And much more

04/10/07: Bear Good!

That was the verdict of a group of young people from the Cherry Tree who went on a recent trip to Wales.

The group of seven young men got money for their trip by making an application to the Youth Opportunities Fund and were supported by the South Havering Detached Team.

The group had two nights at a local youth centre near Brecon. On the Saturday the group did two activities caving and gorging (which involved climbing a waterfall). On the Sunday they went to the Millennium stadium in Cardiff for a tour before heading home.

The overall response from the group was that it was a very enjoyable experience or in their own words Bear Good!
