02/10/08: Youth@ PRIDE 08

About five hundred thousand people came together to celebrate equality and diversity at PRIDE London this year. What a party!

This was our (Havering’s LGBT Group) second time at PRIDE, ten of us from Havering including three youth workers had an amazing day.

First we went to the University of Art in Bond Street to meet lots of other LGBT Youth groups from all over UK.

Together we went to the parade as Youth@Pride.
There were so many of colourful, fun floats and thousands of people waving flags and dressed in the theme of the parade, fantasy and fairytales- the costumes were nang!

We marched through the streets of London holding the largest flag you have seen! it was an enormous rainbow flag that portrays all of the diversity of the LGBT communities.

We went along Oxford street, around Piccadilly Circus and up to Trafalgar Square with thousands and thousands on people cheering the parade on. The atmosphere was electric.

We also met Ian Mckellan (Gandolf in Lord of the Rings) he’s a big supporter of rights and anti homophobia.

Feedback of the day was……

“ It had been a great day it gave us a chance to really enjoy ourselves and to celebrate the great diversity of sexuality, the day gives people freedom to be yourself”

“ Why the day was special for me ……..tolerance, fun, dressing up, seeing fiends, meeting beautiful people, freedom, liberation, awareness and pride.
Straight and gay people celebrating together really makes the day for me.”
