In 2001
six Youth Affairs Forums were established with the support
of local Councillors, with the basic aim of giving
young people a voice in their communities.
The terms
of reference of these forums are to:
1. Provide a forum and a voice for young people that
represent their views at local level. This forum can
be a place where young people from varying backgrounds
can meet, debate concerns and issues concerning them
in their communities.
2. Offer an opportunity for young people to become
engaged in the learning process and decision-making
structures, which affect their lives, the lives of
others as well as their environment.
3. Enable young people to understand and act upon personal,
social and political issues that affect their lives,
the lives of others and the communities of which they
are a part.
4. Encourage young people to gain skills, knowledge
and attitudes needed to identify, advocate and pursue
their rights and responsibilities as individuals as
members of groups and communities locally.
5. Require local elected Members to facilitate, coordinate
and consult with young people and provide recommendations
to the Council through the Community Area Forum structure.
We have Youth Forum work being undertaken by young
people in these areas:
Harold Hill/Harold Wood
Hornchurch/Elm Park
South Havering
Upminster/Cranham and Nelmes
Whilst the areas below
are engaging young people in discussions around developments
for young people:
North Romford
