What is a Personal Adviser?
A Personal Adviser is a fully qualified person who can offer practical support and advice about important life choices. This may be education, training, employment or lifestyle choices. We are able to help with a wide range of issues which affect young people and may stop them achieving their potential.

How we work
In Havering our Personal Advisers our advisers work mainly in to two teams:

Schools’ Team
These advisers are linked with all the schools and colleges across Havering borough. They offer advice and guidance to young people both one to one and group sessions. Some of the advisers can offer time and support to assist young people with other issues such as bullying, homelessness, health and social issues. This is to help young people take a full and positive part in education.

If you are in school or college, you will be able to contact your Personal Adviser (Guidance) through your school’s Careers Co-ordinator. Speak to your school admin team or student services who can let you know how to do this. Help and support is also available at both of Havering’s college. Check with Student Services at the college or Havering Connexions Centre to find out when the advisers are there college and we can put you in touch.

*NEET Team (Not in Education, Employment or Training.)
If you are unable to see a Guidance Adviser in school or college because you have left education, you can still obtain a full range of support from your Connexions Centre in Romford. The Havering Connexions centre is located in Western Road, and there are Information Shops in both Romford and Harold Hill. The Havering Connexions Centre is easy to find and is close to the bus and train links in Romford.

Our Advisers in the Havering Connexions Centre are available to offer information, advice and support on:

• Career choices
• Information about and applying for further or higher education
• Finding work or training
• Improving job search skills
• Issues which get in the way of school or college
• Activities and projects taking place in the borough
• Benefits, housing or childcare issues

Havering Connexions work with a range of other people, so that we can help more effectively. We also work closely with parents and carers and the agencies that support them.

Lastly, and most importantly, we will listen, treat you with respect and provide a confidential and caring service.
