The word is spreading
“Big Yellow Machine” seen around the borough!!
Since its launch the Connexions Truck has
slowly but surely been visiting different locations within
the borough. It’s been spotted in Elm Park, Cranham,
Harold Hill, Romford and Upminster.
It is a superb Youth Engagement resource and so far has
been well received at all its locations.
Its appearance at the Harold Hill Fun Day and the Mardyke
Festival was a resounding success with both young people
and adults alike.
The truck is fitted with two computers, which can be linked
to a large Plasma screen for display purposes, or to show
films and DVD’s created by young people. Soon to
be fitted is a video player, TV link, sound system and
Internet connection.
Electricity is supplied by its own built in generator
or by an external source if available. Heating is incorporated
for the winter and its air conditioning system is a blessing
in the summer.
Apart from young people just turning up to use the computers
and using the truck as a focal point for meeting, it has
enabled the Youth at Risk Team to engage with them and
continue forward onto other projects.
In due course the truck will be themed and used to promote
different aspects of youth work e.g. employment, drugs
awareness, healthy eating etc.
Should you have any ideas that you may wish to share
with us for the use of the truck, or you would like
it to visit
you – days or evenings, please do not hesitate
to call the Central Youth Services Team at the Robert
Beard Youth House on 01708 443553
and ask for Arthur Wiggins who co-ordinates
the truck bookings. The Truck can be hired by external
groups or agencies, a charge will be made, please contact
Arthur for further details. |
